In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility also received an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to be given multiple A+ category scores. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This facility provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Rhode Island in this area with 71.2 percent of its residents returning home.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. There are quite a few datapoints within this grade. Many of these criteria reflect nurse staffing. With 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the national average. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any facility the country in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Switching gears to the fourth area, this facility also performed admirably in our long-term care category. We gave it an A- for that area. This wrapped up a straight A report card. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.55 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
