Nurse Quality

Grade: A

On top of receiving a great overall score, this nursing home excelled in our nursing category. We awarded it an A for that area. The nursing score analyzes a handful of datapoints, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its superb resume, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a score of A- in that area. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more positive scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. Short-term care scores are critical for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Finishing off its excellent profile, this nursing home also performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it a score of B+ for that category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
