Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a great overall score, this place also received top notch government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher grades in this category, with a grade of A. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home fared well in the category of long-term care. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our higher grades. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are kept in good health. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 98.34025 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a favorable short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is more often than not a fair assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The final area we graded was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a C. While this is its least impressive category score, this is still not the end of the world. Nursing scores are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning a resident even once per day.
