Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical area. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note the fact that this facility was given an impressive grade of A in our short-term care area. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. When calculating our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving residents more often.
Long-term Care Quality
In our last category, we gave this facility an A+ for our long-term care grade. This completed a very favorable report card. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
