Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
To complement its top-shelf accomplishments in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its short-term care score. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. It does not look like this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this nursing home performed much more favorably. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 64.8 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing score weighs many subcategories, but the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final category we assessed, this nursing home was awarded an impressive grade grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this grade, the facility finished off a very strong report card. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. It does not look like this facility provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
