Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Our inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

We were also surprised to discover that this nursing home earned a reasonably solid long-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that area. Long-term care scores are based on a facility's amount of nursing services. This means a broad range of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 97.11539 percent of its patients. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing rating includes a handful of components, however, the primary one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This place averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The next area we rated is short-term care. This facility received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this category. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Based on its score in this area, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 3.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
