Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
The second most favorable category we gave this facility in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 69.58904 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a decent grade of C. Short-term care grades are generally used to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services To have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this area is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our final area, this facility was awarded a C in nursing, which we consider to be a decent score. In determining our nursing ratings, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, nursing grades also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.
