Facility Inspections
In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Very few places fared as well in this area. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we assessed this nursing home so favorably is that it received an A+ short-term care score. This is just about as strong as it gets in this category. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One of this facility's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it provides more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. It fared as well as just about any nursing home in Minnesota in this area with 76.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a first-rate long-term care score. Indeed, this is this nursing home's third best category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at is nursing, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of A-. This rounded out a very favorable profile. Not many nursing homes received an A- or higher in every single category. Our nursing rating consists of many components, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This place boasts a really impressive 5.9 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which a significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to providing high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the country in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these metrics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
