Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that area with a grade of A+. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have deficiency data for this nursing home. We wish we had more information about this facility. Without having complete deficiency data, it is difficult to really assess this nursing home in the inspections category.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's more respectable category scores was in the area of short-term care. This proved to be its second best category. In that category, we gave this facility a B-. In determining our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is considered to be a reliable assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. Nursing ratings are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.
Long-term Care Quality
Our last area is long-term care, where we awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. Our long-term care scores are more important for folks requiring more conventional services related to personal care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 93.75 percent of its patients. This is a bit lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
