Long-term Care Quality
This facility really performed well in the area of long-term care. We gave it an impressive grade of A for that category. This saved its overall profile. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.52153 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. We awarded this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. This is far more impressive than its overall grade. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second lowest category was short-term care, where it earned just a D in that category. This is a well below average grade. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It appears that this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we considered. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our fourth category, we gave this nursing home a D for the area of nursing. This was the facility's worst category score. Sadly, this score hurt the nursing home's overall grade a bit. There are numerous factors within this category. Most of the subcategories are tied to staffing levels. This facility offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is well below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
