Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While we gave this facility a bad overall score, we actually awarded it a fairly respectable grade in the area of inspections, where we gave it a B-. This was certainly better than its other category grades. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing rating consists of quite a few datapoints, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third most favorable area ended up being short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our last area, this facility really did not fare very well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this facility vaccinated just 82.6484 percent of its patients, which is several points lower than we expected. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
