Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care. In fact, we gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. This boosted its profile. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 71 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our nursing score analyzes quite a few subcategories, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored in some quality-based measures. This facility scored well in a few of the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided with better nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's least impressive category was long-term care, which is the final area we scored. It received a lowly F in this area. Despite some decent scores in other categories, this score is still of a concern so we felt obligated to make a note of it. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to only 52.314816 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.4 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
