On top of faring well in its overall grade, this nursing home received even higher grades in the area of short-term care. In fact, it earned one of our highest scores in that area with an A-. With our short-term care category, we seek to craft a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. It doesn't look like this facility provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final category we scored is long-term care, in which this facility received a grade of B-. Even though this turned out to be its poorest category score, this is still not a bad grade. Long-term care grades are commonly used to score a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations.
