Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home really excelled in our short-term care category. We gave it an impressive grade of A- for that category, which is one of our best grades. This salvaged its overall profile. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who returned home from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home earned an B+ in the category of nursing. Nursing ratings are mostly based on the facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility New Mexico in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving patients even once per day.

Facility Inspections
Looking to our inspection category, we gave this nursing home a grade of just D. One of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the severity of the deficiencies. This facility had 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this place received significant government fines recently of over $50,000. This usually indicates that CMS inspectors became frustrated after multiple years of failed government inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a rock bottom grade. This is obviously a major concern. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.92473 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
