Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Not many facilities performed better in this area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 86.20178 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing rating. We gave this facility a grade of D. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses spend with patients and the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was short-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Unfortunately, this category pulled down the nursing home's overall profile to some degree. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the staffing figures we considered. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
