Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Nursing scores are primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving a resident more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was given an impressive short-term care score. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is frequently a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. This nursing home provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a great sign. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 41.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was long-term care. This facility was given a favorable nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of B. Even though this wasn't nearly as strong as a few of its other scores, this remains one of our stronger grades in that area. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 3.89 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this number can be skewed for some facilities due to the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
