Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To pair with its strong overall score, we gave this place an A- for our inspections rating. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so well is that it was awarded a strong long-term care score. In fact, long-term care ended up being its second most impressive category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home a score of A-. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to another strength for this facility, we gave them one of our stronger scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most meaningful for people requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this area is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next area we analyzed is nursing, where this facility was awarded a B. This facility ended up being strong in all areas we analyzed. There are a number of subcategories within this category. Most of the factors reflect staffing levels. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This nursing home fared well in some of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
