To pair with its favorable overall performance, we awarded this nursing home an A- for the area of inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Nursing ratings are mostly tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. With 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the national average. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls leading to serious injury, this facility performed as well as any facility in the nation. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The next category we looked at was short-term care. This nursing home was awarded an impressive short-term care score, with a grade of B in this category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. This place was above average with 51.5 percent of its patients able to return home.

The final area we analyzed was long-term care, where we gave it a strong grade of B. This facility really doesn't have any weaknesses. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. Once we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. The last statistic we assessed was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.93 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some facilities based on some of the medical complexity of residents.
