Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. We looked at the licensure of nurses working for the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in determining our grade in this area. This place provided 5.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is among the more impressive figures in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by these statistics. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a grade of A+ for its short-term care grade. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we assessed. This is usually an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 72.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional strength for this facility is long-term care, where it was awarded an A+ rating. This is simply as strong as it gets in this area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. One of the statistics we considered on top of this nursing home's above average nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the elderly. This combination proved to be effective as this facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.86 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. We gave it an impressive grade of A- for that category. This wrapped up its straight A report card. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
