Facility Inspections
To pair with a favorable overall score, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspection category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also fared very well in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
The third category we looked at is short-term care. Contributing to its top-shelf profile, this facility also excelled in that category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of of A- in the area. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This proved to be a real strength for this nursing home. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 57 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
In the last area, we awarded this facility a A+ for our nursing score. This wrapped up a very favorable report card. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
