We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in this category with an A-. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

This facility also was awarded an impressive long-term care score. As a matter of fact, we gave it a B in that area, which happens to be one of our better. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.47561 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. Our nursing rating assesses many components, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place.

Moving on to the next category, we gave this facility a D for the area of short-term care. This was the facility's least impressive category grade. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Based on its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
