Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this facility performed well in long-term care. We gave it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 88.63636 percent of its residents. This is a few points less than we anticipated. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection ratings are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Nursing homes that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report, which is still very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. Our nursing category assesses quite a few datapoints, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this metric. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we rated is short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in that area. This is a fair grade in this category. Short-term care ratings are vital for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It doesn't look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.
