Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home excelled in nursing, where it received an B-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most other nursing homes. Finally, our nursing ratings also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we awarded this facility a B- for our short-term care rating, which is not a bad grade. Our short-term care scores are probably most critical for those needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility did not fare well here either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this is really as bad as it gets. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 95.89041 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
