Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of A-. This is a much better score than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this nursing home's more respectable category scores came in the category of short-term care. This proved to be its second most respectable category. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. Our short-term care grades are critical for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we weigh the amount of time nurses are caring for residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's least impressive area is long-term care, which is the final category we looked at. For this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. For patients in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the data points we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.95918 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
