Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with too many deficiencies flagged. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home's next most favorable area is long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to only 59.40171 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Another unfortunate development was the F this facility received in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services To have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. With a grade of this caliber for this area, we were not shocked to find this place was well below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. The facility supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

The last category we assessed was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score in this category also. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is obviously somewhat alarming. When determining a facility's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses are with patients as well as the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hour totals.
