Nurse Quality
We also would like to point out that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We gave them an A+ in this area. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This place provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is among the better totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by both of these statistics. In addition to providing impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any nursing home in the nation in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
Another reason we rated this facility so favorably is that it was given an A+ short-term care score. This is just about as dominant as it gets in this category. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is often a solid measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. When we assessed this nursing home's nursing hours, we found it provided much more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This place outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation with 64.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In the last area, we gave this facility a grade of A for our long-term care rating. This topped off a very favorable report card. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to offering elite levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.17514 percent of its patients. This percentage is also much better than most nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.51 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
