Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A-. The nursing score is based on a handful of subcategories, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received a strong short-term care score. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this category. Short-term care grades are often used to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We also wanted to point out this nursing home's nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of B+ in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we graded was long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for the area of long-term care, leaving this as its weakest category. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the place is not as well-staffed. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 93.10345 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we expected but still a decent percentage. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
