Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is certainly a great sign for the quality of care at this nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its next best category score in the category of long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in this area, which is a respectable grade. Our long-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's volume of nursing services. This means a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than the average nursing home. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next highest category was its short-term care grade, where it was given a grade of C. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our next area, this nursing home really didn't perform very well. With a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this was its poorest category. The nursing score features several factors. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This place provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
