Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although this facility's overall score was terrible, it performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Surprisingly, we gave this nursing home a grade of C for our long-term care rating, which is not a bad grade. Our long-term care scores are more important for folks in need of more conventional assistance associated with activities of daily living. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated 64.20233 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit below average. The last statistic we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had a relatively high 3.84 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Neither its vaccination record nor its hospitalization rate were strengths for this nursing home in this area.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its below average total nursing hours per patient, this nursing home had poor marks in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining falls which led to major injury. This place was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we assessed was short-term care, in which this facility was given a rock bottom grade in this category also. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. In our short-term care assessment, we try to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Given its poor grade, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home provided substantially fewer registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 41.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. This statistic was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
