While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home was given its next highest category grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this nursing home a B- in this area, which is an acceptable grade. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

The next area we looked at was long-term care. This facility's received a rock-bottom long-term care grade where it was given a lowly F. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinates 99.19571 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

The final category we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was given a rock bottom grade of F in this category. There are numerous factors included in this category. Most of the factors reflect staffing levels. This facility provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is an alarmingly low total. In addition to ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also had poor marks in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in both of these metrics. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
