Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection ratings are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second most favorable category is short-term care. We gave it a B- in this category. This is basically a slightly below average score in this area. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This category is typically a useful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. It fared well with 58.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only earned a D for its long-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 92.51208 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.32 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
Nurse Quality
The next area we rated is nursing. This facility received a very poor grade of F in that area. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses were with residents, in computing our score in this area. This place averaged a meager 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home had bad scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing falls leading to serious injury. This facility was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
