Long-term Care Quality
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a better long-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that area. Long-term care grades are vital for people in need of personal care. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 97.948715 percent of its patients for pneumonia. The last datapoint we looked at was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 1.88 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is not too far off the national average.
Nurse Quality
This facility's second best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing grade is mostly based on the facility's nurse staffing. Quantity of nursing care does not appear to be the problem here. Based on the data, it looks like this nursing home provides an above average 4 hours per resident on a daily basis. This is more nursing care than most nursing homes provide. Despite being above average in terms of nursing hours, this place had a few less favorable scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients having falls leading to major injury and found this nursing home to be above the national average in this statistic. This is not what we like to see here. We believe that many falls could likely be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing grade.
Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this place received an F for its inspection grade. For facilities that received this bad of an inspection rating, we would scrutinize any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This nursing home had 5 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated was short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a rock bottom grade in this area as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a major concern. Our short-term care ratings are arguably more meaningful for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. With its score in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we looked at. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 27.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.
