We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in this area with a grade of A-. Inspection grades are tied to several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

We also gave this facility a solid grade in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Our long-term care grade assesses a nursing home's assistance with daily living instead of the skilled nursing and healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.046875 percent of its patients. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next area we looked at is short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of C in this area. In our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Switching gears to the next category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for our nursing category. This was the nursing home's least impressive category rating. Our nursing grade assesses several data points, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is an alarmingly low total. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place had really poor scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. For starters, we looked at the percent of residents having falls which led to serious injury. This place was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
