Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this nursing home still received a relatively favorable inspection report.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating and that actually turned out to be its second highest score. Our nursing grade is based on a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Unfortunately, this facility received an F for its long-term care score. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated 53.974895 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is several points lower than what we expected. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.

Switching gears to our final area, this nursing home didn't fare well in this category either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is really as bad as it gets. Our short-term care scores are crucial for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the figures we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 2.8 percent of its residents returning home.
