Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Our inspection scores are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next highest area we awarded this facility in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Our long-term care ratings are essential for prospective residents requiring personal care. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 67.028984 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this place keeps its patients out of the hospital. While it had 2.15 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than the majority of nursing homes due to it having more complex patients.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. There are quite a few subcategories within this area. Many of these subcategories relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. Unfortunately, this facility also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we graded is short-term care, where this facility received a very poor grade here as well. It received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. In forming these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. This facility a bit in this metric as well, with just 45.1 percent of its patients returning home.
