Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

On top of performing well overall, this nursing home earned a very good nursing rating this year as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that category with a B+. There are a number of subcategories within this grade. Many of these datapoints are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home was awarded a strong short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that area with a score of B+. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It does not look like this nursing home submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this nursing home also was given favorable long-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we gave them one of our stronger grades in that area, with a score of B. For patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 84.745766 percent of its patients, which is slightly lower than we anticipated. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

Lastly, we looked at this nursing home's inspection grade This was not one of this nursing home's stronger areas. We gave it a C in this category. This isn't a terrible grade in this category. It simply wasn't as favorable as some of this facility's other category grades. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
