The main reason this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of A. When calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Turning to our last area, we awarded this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care. This is the nursing home's worst category grade. Unfortunately, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home gave the vaccine to only 86.85446 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
