Registered Staff Hours
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection scores are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
This facility excelled in the category of nursing, where it earned an B-. Few facilities performed better in this area. Our nursing grade is mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did well in this area. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality
Surprisingly, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for its short-term care grade, which really isn't too bad of a score. In determining our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is generally a fair assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was long-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is a poor score. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 93.95973 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
