Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home received a long-term care score which is stronger than its overall grade. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this category. This really helped its overall grade. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.25073 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility also received favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. This is better than the facility's overall grade. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next most favorable area is its short-term care grade, where it received a B-. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is considered to be a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility's worst category is nursing, which is the final area we looked at. We gave it an F for this area. Despite multiple acceptable grades in other areas, this grade is still concerning so we wanted to draw your attention to it. There are a host of factors included in this area. Many of these criteria relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This place performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
