Long-term Care Quality
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B+ for our long-term care rating. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 95.39007 percent of its residents. This is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 1.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly lower hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an D. There are many datapoints included in this category. Many of the subcategories reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place averaged only 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in two of the statistics we focus on, with good marks for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this facility received a lowly F for its inspection rating. For places with poor inspection grades, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This particular facility was assessed one category J or K deficiency, which are among the worst categories of deficiencies. Finally, we want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines in recent years exceeding $50,000. This typically means that inspectors became fed up after multiple years of failed government inspections.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth category, this facility did not perform very well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. In the category of short-term care, we strive to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. With its score in this area, we were not surprised to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 29.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
