Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this facility a grade of B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive grades. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we assessed the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 94.96403 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening illness for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term care grades are generally used to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we graded is nursing. We awarded this facility a grade of D in nursing, making this the facility's least impressive category grade. Our nursing grade considers numerous factors. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
