Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We would like to point out that this nursing home's inspection rating exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this area, which is a quality score. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

We also awarded this facility a strong grade in long-term care. This nursing home received a grade of B in this area, which happens to be one of our better grades. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's third most favorable category was short-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is essentially a slightly below average score in this category. In our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. We weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Turning to our next category, this nursing home was given a C for nursing, which is a respectable grade. The nursing grade is based on a number of data points. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared to most other nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this area. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a resident at least once a day.
