Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this facility fared very well in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. This nursing home's vaccination records were a bit weaker than some of the other datapoints in this area, such as its nursing hours. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 52.32558 percent of its residents. We would love to see some improvement herein this statistic in the future. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 3.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given a favorable short-term care score as well. We gave it one of our higher scores in that category with a score of B+. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 60 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
The next category we analyzed is nursing. This nursing home was given a favorable nursing score in our assessment, with a B-. Even though this is not quite as impressive as some of its other category grades, this is still an acceptable rating in this category. Nursing scores are mostly associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides 4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is better than average. In determining our nursing ratings, we add more weight to hours performed by more highly trained nurses such as registered nurses. Lastly, we also factored in some quality-based metrics. This nursing home scored well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place outpaced the national average. This is usually an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided with better nursing care.
