To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Facilities that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This nursing home also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. Our inspection grades are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's inspections. Places that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. The nursing category is based on many datapoints, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing scores also consider quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.

The last category we graded was short-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in this area. However, we would not judge this nursing home solely on a single bad area, as it was given some excellent scores in other areas. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the staffing figures we looked at. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.3 percent of its patients returning home. This was quite a bit below the national average.
