Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing score is primarily associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which was among the highest figures we found. Finally, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients sustaining falls leading to major injury, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given an impressive long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category with a score of B. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. While we determined this facility has a favorable volume of nursing care provided by aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccine statistics to be a bit low. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 49.69419 percent of its patients. This is one statistic we would really like to see this facility improve on. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.91 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility is just about middle of the road in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored is short-term care. We awarded this facility one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of B. This nursing home turned out to be strong in all areas we analyzed. Our short-term care ratings are probably most critical for folks requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This place fared respectably with 45.5 percent of its patients returning home.
