Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be relatively insignificant. It doesn't look like we were able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A+. Our nursing score weighs a host of subcategories. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provided 5 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the higher totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by both of these statistics. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With under 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers could be avoided by offering better nursing care and a policy of moving residents at least once a day.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its long-term care grade. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of offering very impressive levels of nursing care, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. This combination proved to be effective as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.69 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the final category, this facility also performed admirably in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it an A in this category. This wrapped up a straight A profile. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home elevated its score in this category by providing more care from registered nurses to its patients than the average nursing home. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that it performed better than most facilities in this area with 50.3 percent of its patients returning home.
