Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to being a quality facility overall, this facility really excelled at short-term care, where it received an A. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing grade. Nursing grades are largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility also earned favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with a B. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we analyzed was long-term care. In this category, we gave this facility a very solid grade of B. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
