On top of being a great facility overall, it also earned A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections were nearly perfect. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to this facility's list of accomplishments, it also was given a very favorable short-term care score. We gave them an impressive strong of A- in this area. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This place provided more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a facility in this category. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in North Carolina in this area with 58.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the third category, this facility also received a grade of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this category. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.15254 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated was nursing. We gave this facility a solid score in that area, with a grade of C. While this isn't as favorable as many of this nursing home's other scores, it is nevertheless not a major area of concern. The nursing score is based on a variety of factors. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this statistic. Avoiding serious falls is often a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls can be prevented if a facility offers enough nurses to assist its residents.
