Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to note its decent health inspection reports in recent years. We awarded it a relatively respectable score of B- in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

This nursing home's short-term care grade is one of its better features. The nursing home was awarded a B- in this category. In our short-term care grade, we try to create a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing grades are mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

The final category we rated is long-term care, was this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 91.04859 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
