Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this nursing home received an A in our long-term care category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.72603 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The third area we looked at was short-term care. Adding to its top-shelf profile, this nursing home also excelled in this area. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A for that area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is more often than not a fair assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Turning to the last category, this facility received a very strong nursing grade. Even though this isn't as good as some of its other category grades, this remains one of the stronger scores a facility can receive. There are a variety of data points within this grade. Most of these data points reflect levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a patient even once per day.
